Vietnam, Cuba pledge to boost bilateral ties

HANOI, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese top leaders respectively met with Raul Castro, First Secretary of Cuban Communist Party and President of the Council of State and the President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, in capital Hanoi on Sunday, during which both sides pledged to further boost bilateral ties.
On behalf of the Vietnamese party, state and people, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong sincerely thanked the Cuban party, state and people for their solidarity and support to the Vietnamese people's cause for national liberation and reunification in the past and national development at present.
Raul Castro said he is happy to visit Vietnam, saying with determination and wish of the two Parties, States and peoples, the bilateral close relationship will be further developed in the coming years.
On issues of international community's interests such as environment pollution, interest conflicts and democracy, he said Cuba wants to cooperate with other countries on the basis of equality and consistently pursue socialist path for the goal of friendly and prosperous Cuba.
The two party leaders exchanged news of relations between the two parties and discussed measures to deepen their bilateral ties and expand comprehensive cooperation in the new stage, for the interest of the two countries.
They agreed to increase visits at all levels and exchange of experience, practical and theoretical, in party building and economic developing towards effective and sustainable direction, as well as confirm support to each other at international forums.
At his meeting with the Cuban leader, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang said Raul Castro's visit to Vietnam following Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visit to Cuba is a significant milestone in the history of the two countries and peoples' relations.
Meanwhile, at the talks, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung confirmed that the Vietnamese government will try to its utmost and together with the Cuban side to effectively implement the agreements approved during Trong's visit to Cuba as well as Castro's visit to Vietnam this time.
Dung also stressed that on the basis of their fine political and diplomatic ties, Vietnam and Cuba should further boost cooperation in economics, trade and investment, as well as prioritize areas that the two sides have potential and strong points, such as agriculture, energy, telecom and pharmaceuticals, for mutual development.
The Cuban leader hopes that Vietnam will share with them experience in renewal and development of the country, adding that Cuba wishes to receive Vietnam's continual support at international forums.
Raul Castro is visiting Vietnam at the invitation of the Vietnamese party and state leaders to promote bilateral ties.
